Baru Village, located in Rambutan Subdistrict, Banyuasin, faces limited livelihood options due to the challenging biophysical conditions of peatland, including high soil acidity and unpredictable flooding. Stingless beekeeping emerges as a viable alternative livelihood, particularly for women, as it can be practiced in home gardens without requiring significant land or resources. This activity not only provides an additional income stream but also contributes to environmental improvement by encouraging the planting of nectar-producing trees, which enhance biodiversity and support sustainable land management.
A year after trainings, 126 nests of bees being managed by farmers in Baru village. Keeping stingless bees not only attract other farmers inside village, but also other farmers outside village. Sumber Makmur village in Muara Padang subdistrict, Banyuasin, is a village that interested to adopt stingless bees keeping and proposed to get training from Baru village. Beside deliver the training, farmers from Baru village also sell nests for farmer in Sumber Makmur village.
